July 30 at 13:00 - 14:30 IN ENGLISH: GUIDED TOUR: MEDELHAVSMUSEET AND NATIONALMUSEUM- QUEER DIVERSITY THEN AND NOW

During Stockholm Pride Week, the National Museum and the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities are organizing joint tours in collaboration with RFSL - the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Rights. We invite you to explore queer stories and art from then and now!

The tour begins in the Medelhavsmuseet's exhibition Habibi - the Revolutions of Love, where contemporary artists from the Arab world, Iran and Afghanistan challenge gender norms while exploring relationships with the self, the body and public space. After a joint walk to the National Museum, we deepen the theme by meeting historical figures, motifs and phenomena that have challenged - and continue to challenge - a heteronormative order.

The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours and is followed by coffee and cake.

The National Museum and Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities are two neighboring museums with different focuses. The National Museum has a Western orientation and shows paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints from the 16th century to the turn of the 20th century, as well as crafts and design objects from the 16th century to the present. The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities features exhibitions of both ancient and contemporary objects from the Mediterranean and Middle East. In this collaboration, we interweave the museums to create a bridge of queer narratives that stretch through time and space.
